1. Is offsetting the emissions from my flight compulsory?
No, it’s entirely voluntary. By calculating the climate impact from your flight and paying to reduce that impact you are choosing to take responsibility for those emissions.
2. Can I choose which project I support?
Your offsets will be delivered through projects in ClimateCare’s online Mixed Portfolio. The portfolio is a collection of projects which are blended to balance emission reductions, impacts on people with an affordable price per tonne (£7.50 or the equivalent in your chosen currency on the day you offset). Throughout the year as volume builds we may add additional projects to meet customer demand. For examples of the projects you’ll be supporting see ClimateCare Projects page
3. How do I know that my offset payment is really reducing emissions?
We have chosen to work with ClimateCare, a recognised leader in the provision of carbon offsets. All its offsets are subject to robust measurement and verification processes; Their projects are designed to peer reviewed methodologies and they must demonstrate that emissions reductions created would not have happened without the offset funding. Throughout the life of the project, emission reductions are measured regularly to the agreed methodology in the project’s design, independently verified and only then are credits issued onto a registry. When you offset your carbon emissions these carbon credits are retired (taken out of circulation) on a public registry, so they cannot be used again.
4. Do I get any evidence of my offset?
Yes, you’ll receive a ClimateCare certificate outlining the emissions you’ve offset and some hints and tips on how to reduce your personal footprint further.
5. Where can I find out more about the projects I’ve supported?
Visit ClimateCare’s website for further details of the projects you’re supporting through your offset.
6. How can I calculate and offset emissions from other activities?
Any activity which involves burning fossil fuels will cause carbon emissions, which has an impact on the climate. To calculate emissions from other activities like driving, heating and cooling your home and using electricity visit ClimateCare’s carbon calculator.
7. How often is the calculator updated?
The figures will be re-visited annually so that they reflect real fuel usage and configuration of our aircraft.
8. Who do I contact if there is any problem?
9. Can I get refund if the flight is changed or cancelled?
No, we are unable to refund payments once they have been made, but the payment that you have made will ensure an emission reduction, which you could use to offset other activities.
10. How is cargo carried in the hold of an aircraft accounted for when you calculate the passenger’s share of fuel consumption?
As part of the calculation method, the fuel use of the cargo is removed when calculating the emissions attributable to the passengers. So only the emissions attributable to the passengers are provided.
11. Where does my money go?
Unlike many other offset programmes, EVA Airways does not charge an administration fee or mark-up on the offset price paid by the passenger. All the money that you pay will go directly to ClimateCare. In fact, all administration costs involved in the programme including website re-development, carbon emission data collection are borne by EVA Airways.
